The actress is causing a stir with new photo on the cover of W magazine.
The November issue of W magazine with a cover photo of Angelina Jolie breast-feeding one of her newborn twins isn’t even out yet and already it’s getting a reaction, reports Reuters.com.
The picture taken by Jolie’s partner, Brad Pitt, has gotten both positive and negative responses.
Andie Silverman, mother of two and author of Mama Knows Breast, talked to Reuters saying she thought Jolie could be seen as a role model for new mothers.
"I think it is fabulous. Seeing a celebrity like Angelina Jolie breast-feed can be a role model to encourage women to make a choice that is wonderful for their baby."
Silverman continued, "Breasts are used to sell all sorts of products, so to see them used the way nature intended can only be a great thing."
Breast feeding support organization La Leche League International stands behind the picture as well.
Spokeswoman Jane Krouse gave kudos to Jolie’s efforts at breast-feeding, saying, "Mothers of twins report it takes a lot of time, effort and physical energy to breast-feed. I think the picture is beautiful."
Psychotherapist Dr. Shannon Fox, from www.momlogic.com, also spoke with Reuters and said that while the response from mothers is positive, she still has concerns.
"The response from moms we have seen is that if someone as popular, beautiful and together as Angelina is breast-feeding her children, it inspires other women to do so themselves."
Fox said that the problem with the picture lies in Jolie’s being a sex symbol.
"The problem is that she is also an international sex symbol. So whether or not she says, 'This is a beautiful way of nurturing my baby,' every man who sees that photo will see those breasts as sexual."
The concern could just be over hyped, as it is reported that the picture in question shows more of Jolie’s smiling face than body or baby as only the little tike's hand is shown in the bottom of the frame.
It’s not as if Jolie is the first star to be photographed breast feeding, as a photo of model Jerry Hall breast feeding her and Mick Jagger’s son, Gabriel, graced the cover of Vanity Fair in 1991.
